E-commerce Plugins for Builder

You can extend the Visual Editor with plugins for headless e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, Swell, and BigCommerce. A full list of our plugins is available on the Integrations page.

Installing the e-commerce plugins gives your team access to platform-specific custom types that can be used to:

  • Use products, collections, and other e-commerce resources as inputs for your custom code components.
  • Target content based on resources like products or collections instead of URL paths with hard-coded resource handles or IDs.
  • Preview resources on product detail pages and inside of other content while editing.

How e-commerce plugins fit into your site

E-commerce plugins provide partial integration with your e-commerce platforms. The main benefit that they provide is custom types for use in the Visual Editor.

Custom e-commerce types eliminate the need to manually enter references—such as slugs or IDs—to your platform's resources, which helps ensure accurate data. When your team members need to refer to a resource, they can select that resource from a drop-down list with search and image previews.

The plugin passes a reference to your e-commerce resource back to your site, and your site requests the resource data from your e-commerce platform based on that reference. For example, if a user selects a product using a field that has a Shopify product handle type, your site receives the product's handle, which you can use to request data from Shopify's API.

The reference passed to your site depends on the custom type used by your field. See E-commerce custom types for more information.
